Splatoon 3: New Nintendo Switch Gameplay Multiplayer Experience - techipii
Splatoon 3

Five years after the release of the second episode, the Splatoon 3 saga offers the third episode at the start of the school year, the least we can say is that it looks more ambitious than ever.

Splatoon 3 seems to be the official culmination of the card game's extensive customization options in co-op, multiplayer and multiplayer modes, as established by the first installment released for the WiiU in 2015.

However, before the official release of the title on September 9, we were able to test a few game modes beforehand and give you our first impressions.

    1. Gameplay on the new Splatoon 3 game

For those who have never played Splatoon, this is a great opportunity to see the gameplay of this relatively new Nintendo franchise, a third-person shooter where you play as Inklings, children neither human nor cephalopod who can transform into squids, which have tentacles instead of hair.

Designed primarily for multiplayer, players compete in arenas by shooting each other with paint strokes, the goal is to cover more of the map with paint than the opposing team.

To achieve victory you have a multitude of different weapons and uses, but which have the particularity of consuming an anchor that charges when you turn into a squid, in this form it jumps into the ground and moves fast, but only in team colors.

Additionally, clothing plays an important role as you can benefit from passive bonuses in addition to aesthetics.

    2. Campaign: Splatoon 3 game mode

Splatoon 3 has a single-player mode, which is a good time to get familiar with your weapons before diving into multiplayer, in a campaign titled Return of the Grannies Do Nothing you play as Number 3, battling an Octarian army with the new L 'Swordfish Squadron, still made up of familiar faces like Admiral Macalamar and also ayo and oly and the presenters and singer from the first game.

You then find yourself in an ice kingdom called Alternat. There you will have to fight the shaggy mush, a surface covered with hair that can be destroyed thanks to the dirty brats of the little fish that always accompany us, yes I know that's a lot.

So, as far as the concrete unfolding of this campaign is concerned, we are on a kind of ice floe that acts as a hub and gives us access to the different levels of the game, Collecting salmon eggs at each stage and spending them on feed the filthy brats you can collect, you can destroy the shaggy mush and unlock new access to higher levels.

As I said before, this level is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with both the game mechanics and the weapons, as well as the specific elements of the scenery with which you can interact.

Details: Levels offer different approaches to showcasing all aspects of the Splatoon experience. Some levels are pure shooter sequences where you have to kill all the enemies to advance and interact with the environment to collect keys and reach the end of the stage.

The campaign brings a real level of variety, enough to maintain control of the game and keep players engaged at all times.

Admittedly, it's not always clear what to do at high levels due to decorative elements that aren't obvious to use, but the exact purpose of the campaign is to make sure the story mode is very good. As with the Octo expansion released after the launch of Splatoon 2, it is only here that the approach is more accessible.

    3. Multiplayer: how to play on Splatoon 3

After trying the single-player mode, I was able to switch to the multiplayer mode for 4v4 duels. For our part, we were able to stay in a very classic mode, discovering new features in some Splatoon 2 maps, including new features such as the columned canyon and the banimmo suburb.

Either way, these maps are pretty cool with effective level design, but they obviously require multiple plays to get used to and master properly.

Splatoon 3 also includes new moves that will appeal to the most hardcore players in the series, first, we find squid which allows you to jump in the form of squids to protect you from enemy fire anchors and then jump in the opposite direction for your move away quickly, then, we also find the squid surge which allows you to charge a jump in the form of squid on a wall to project yourself suddenly into the air, quite subtle movements therefore but which can play a determining role in the hands of an experienced player.

Plus, the game was mostly a chance to get hands-on with the new weapons we saw live in Splatoon earlier this month, so that was the signature driller for this installment.

So with a bow, you can shoot in two different ways, horizontally when you are on the ground and vertically when you are jumping. In both situations, the basic shot sends out three colored projectiles that can be charged to create a charge that explodes after a few seconds, so if your bow has some rather peculiar characteristics, it's frankly difficult to grasp once you got used to it. It's fun, it gives the game a nice feeling.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with the second weapon, the tana shard, It's a kind of Catan sauce from Splatoon, The latter can also shoot a small wave of paint in front of it and charge it to perform a more attack power, and even create a small age to get closer to its target.

The latter does as much damage at close range as it does at the range, and his charge attack is ultimately very difficult to Calais, meaning it takes time to adapt to make him really fun to play.

Again, very few games can be played with Tana Keys, it's not always easy to discover its true potential, so it remains to be seen what the ultimate experience will be.

    4. Cooperation: Splatoon Solomonson Mode

After a multiplayer showdown, we were able to combine it with Splatoon 2's popular Solomonson mode to take on multiplayer. It's a salmonid invasion on a small map.

To move from wave to wave, you need to collect the notorious items you find by beating salmon bosses and place them in the designated baskets.

Finally, switch weapons each time a wave begins. This introduces a constant random element. Obviously, if the mode remains the same as Splatoon 2, it introduces some new features.

Finally, just a little more detail, you can now throw golden water and throw it in the basket or give it to your partner to move on. This makes the controls more convenient and pushes the cooperation even better, if the Salmonson is one of the most entertaining game modes in the series, even if the latter did not seem to be the subject of the major innovations of Splatoon 3, which may disappoint fans of the franchise somewhat.

In this sequel to Splatoon 2, Splatoon 3 offers an experience that is still as effective as it is enjoyable, with a campaign inspired by the Octo expansion. Its solo mode promises a good way to learn about weapons and other game mechanics.

In terms of multiplayer, Splatoon, since the latter revisits the formula established by the first game released in 2015, with new weapons with unique characteristics that promise great things for the future, splatoon 3 promises to be the culmination of the formula Splatoon started in 2015, even if its lack of major novelties could displease the most hardcore fans in the long term.
